This is because it does not only help one to find solutions to problems, but it is also a great educational tool. Therefore, I chose this topic because many of my close friends are facing a lot of problems in school. I have been looking for ways to help them overcome their problems without deeply involving with them.
I also have a friend who hates school and therefore, I aim at finding the best way help him appreciate school. The best method I can employ in helping my friends solve problems affecting them without hurting or getting myself involved is by engaging a third party in the problem solving process.
I will look for a trustworthy and a responsible individual who will be able to deeply engage with this particular friend of mine in the problem solving process. This is the individual who will go through the stages of problem solving together with my friend, for example, discussing with him why he hates school in order to understand and efine the actual root of the problem.
The involvement of the third party will ensure that I am not physically involved in the actual problem solving process. Lack of my physical presence in the process will also ensure that I avoid any form of physical or emotional injury that I may be exposed to during the process. Physical injury may occur to me because the friend may get violent towards me during the discussion possibly for he may view me as an intruder into his privacy or because he may get emotional, but in a situation where he is handled by a teacher or a PTA official, he may not get violent.
On the other hand, I may get emotionally hurt as a result of the story and reasons he may give behind that particular problem. I must admit that I am emotionally weak who touching and personal issues easily bring me down, therefore, a third party will prevent me from getting emotionally hurt. My sole responsibility will be to provide the third party with the necessary guidelines of problem solving. I will do this by explaining to him the procedure and the skills he or she will use to dig out information from my friend.
This will help in understanding the problem and in formulating possible solutions towards the problem. To prepare the guidelines, I will follow the stages used in problem solvinng process. As stated by Hardler , the first step I should elaborate to the third party is how to define the problem. This will help him understand the root of the problem and also where the problem exists before he can take any action.
The second step, I will explain to him is how find possible solutions to the problem. Here are some ideas of how you can categorize them:. Most important causes the ones which, if solved, would make the biggest dent in solving the problem. Then, starting with the easiest to solve and most important to solve, think of some ways that it can be solved. Look at my list of how people can solve problems to get some idea. Here is how to research:.
Google or use the library to see what other causes of the problem people have suggested. Look for what has already been done to try to solve the problem. Sometimes, you can find a solution to the problem that has worked in another location. That can be a great starting place for your solution. Finding a solution is always the hardest part of this sort of essay.
I suggest that you follow a three-pronged approach:. Ask as many people as you can who know about the problem what their ideas are for a solution. Research the problem and solutions that others have tried.
One trick my students taught me is that you often can find a solution that has been tried in a different location and adapt that to your situation. For example, when we had problems with people biking on campus and causing accidents, my students researched a nearby campus and found a solution that had been done there. Think about each type of solution and how that could create a solution for your problem. For example, what could you add to the situation? What could you take away? Would changing leadership help?
Could money solve the problem, and if so, how could you get the funds? Finally, when you have some solution ideas, check to see if they are feasible can you do them?
The best way to start a problem solution essay is to give a vivid description of the problem, explaining who it hurts and why. For a problem solution essay, should the problem be in one paragraph and the solution in a different paragraph? My students generally write essays that have at least five paragraphs, often more. I would suggest that you do something like this:. Explain and describe the problem and why this should be solved.
End with a question which is asking how the problem can be solved. How can we solve the problem of school shootings? Then in the next paragraph, you would give your solution idea. If your idea is easy to explain, then you would spend the rest of your paper refuting objections and explaining why your idea would work and be cost-effective, feasible, and effective. On the other hand, if your idea is complicated to explain, you will need to spend a longer part of your paper making sure the reader understands it.
In both cases, you will need to refute any objections and help the reader to see how important it is to do this solution. If you need to find a solution to a problem someone else has chosen, you will need to research the problem and all of the solutions that other people have thought about or tried.
After you have looked up the ideas that other people have considered, you can choose the one that you think would work the best, or maybe you will come up with your own idea. I have to write a "problem solution essay", and I am conflicted on what the topic should be. Do you have any suggestions? The hardest part of writing a problem solution essay is finding a solution.
Often, my students start with one solution idea. Then as they begin to write and collaborate on ideas with others, they will change their topics accordingly. In reality, problem solution essays are a way of writing out what we are always doing in our lives and work: Because these essays are harder to write, it helps if you really care about the topic.
That is why I have my students start by listing things that really annoy them or problems they feel need a solution. Generally, I suggest they stick to something they personally experience. I tell them to think about all of the groups they belong to at school, home, and in their communities and then write a list of all the problems they notice in those groups. Generally, once they have written that list, they start to see something they are most interested in solving.
The best topic to choose is one that has these characteristics:. It is a problem that can be solved with resources or groups you know about and can identify.
